Cougar XC Policies

  1. Cougars are coached by volunteers. We do bring running and coaching experience to the table.

  2. Try-outs: There are no cuts. You can come and try it out for a week if you are unsure about the sport.(This is where our summer runs are beneficial.) However, you can not compete in a race until all the forms are filled out, payment made, and coaches feel you have successfully completed practice in such a way for you to be ready to successfully compete.

  3. Fees: The cost of high school is approximately $150 and the middle school is approximately $90.These fees cover the cost of the meets, uniforms, a few training items, and to help with the banquets at the end of the season.

  4. Meets: We run mainly on Saturday meets at Invitationals around the mid-Michigan area with a few mid-week meets. The high school is a part of a conference competing with other charter and homeschool teams from around the Grand Rapids area. We run 3 conference meets in Grand Rapids typically on Wednesday.

  5. Shoes: It is vital to have the right shoes for you. Gazelle Sports is a great place to help you find the right fit. It is also nice to have spikes for racing but these are optional.

  6. Transportation: You are required to find your own transportation to practices and meets.

  7. Practices: It is vital to be at all practices if you want to have a successful and injury free season. We realize things come up, and ask that you would just communicate with us when they do, but if you can make it minimal it is helpful.
